Jean Morency
vas born in Louisville, Québec on July 9, 1924.
He received his elementary and high school Education from the
Christian Brothers. He then
attended St. Joseph Seminary in Trois-Rivieres and graduated from that
institution with a B.Sc. Jean
continued further studies and received diplomas as x-ray and laboratory
technician.
Jean then
became employed by the Consolidated Paper Corporation and remained with
that company until 1955. It
was at this time that he joined Richard and B.A. Ryan Limited, a general
contracting firm as a co-ordinator and administrator.
Jean took up residence in Labrador City in 1961 and continues in
the employ of. Richard and B.A. Ryan.
Jean has always taken an active
part in the community life of Labrador City.
He was vice-président and director of the Ashuanipi Social Club
for 4 years. He has been a
long standing member of the Labrador West Chamber of Commerce.
He served the Chamber as Président for 3 years, then provincial
director for the Atlantic provinces for 8 years.
He has been very active on the Transport Committee and is presently
chairman of the Welfare Committee.
Jean is a
charter member of the Provincial and Labrador City Association for the
Mentally Handicapped Children and was Provincial Vice-président for 5
years and Local président for 6 years.
Jean joined
the Schefferville Lions Club in I960 and transferred to the Labrador City
Lions Club in 1961 where he remained an active Lion. He has served as
Director,Treasurer, Secretary (2 terms), Vice Président and Président (3
terms). He was Zone Chairman
and Deputy District Governor of District'A-10.
In 1974-75 he became Secretary-treasurer of A-14.
During the past year he was Deputy District Governor.
Jean holds International keys and has just completed 20 years of
100% attendance.
Jean's
hobbies are electrical train construction, painting and statue collecting.
Jean is
married to Maureen Sloane a Lionette of the Labrador City-Wabush club.
They have 2 children and 2 grand children.
